The Employer Nomination Scheme visa (subclass 186) is for skilled workers who want to work permanently in Australia. Under this visa, you can work and study in Australia, apply for citizenship and sponsor eligible persons for permanent residence.
You must be nominated by an approved Australian employer as well as apply for the visa under the correct eligibility stream.
You can apply for this visa only after you have been nominated by your employer in Australia. You must lodge your application within six months of the nomination being approved. You must apply for the visa in the stream and occupation in which your employer nominated you.
This visa is a permanent residence visa for skilled workers. It allows you to work in Australia under one of three streams:

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) visa (subclass 187) is for skilled workers who want to work permanently in regional Australia. This visa allows you and your family to live in Australia and work in a regional location other than the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney, Wollongong and Melbourne.
You must be nominated by an approved Australian employer as well as apply for your visa under the correct eligibility stream.

The employer applies to become a standard business sponsor. This step is required before an employer can nominate an occupation for a subclass 482 visa.

Nomination is the process of identifying a position to be filled by an overseas skilled worker in an approved business.
